Days 21-30

Day 21
Amanda, Christina, and I went to United Church of Chapel Hill (http://www.unitedchurch.org/godspell-united-church) for a Godspell sing-a-long. It was...interesting lol. See below.

Day 22
This was our official welcome to Chapel of the Cross (the church that sponsors JIP). I had to drive separately because the fridge fell apart on me. A couple shelves dropped and afterwards I had a bruise on my foot plus a hand that smelt like banana peppers.

Day 23
I took the bus to work today and right before my intersection to cross the street I saw this sign. I've never seen one of these before. I've also never seen any ducks crossing this street before. But maybe that's because no drivers ever stopped to look at the sign.

Day 24
Habitat swag!!! I was going out to the construction site the next day and my wonderful office mates didn't want me to go out there without my proper gear, so they gave me two t-shirts, a polo, and a bucket hat.

Day 25
I was covered with red clay dust and dirt by the time I took this picture. I felt pretty proud of myself. In the morning I worked with Charlie (a history professor at UNC) and in the afternoon Steve (site supervisor) and some of the older guys (55+) showed me how to do some hammering. And Wednesday crew eats the best lunches. God bless the team that brings them lunch every week. Hopefully I can go out to the site once a month. Look at the pretty Build a Block logo on the sign! (I helped put that sign up by the way)

Day 26
This is me in the cube. Feeling kinda miserable because I had a cold.

Day 27
JIPster pre-Labor Day trip to Jordan Lake. The goal was to take 2 cars and meet at the same spot. Things don't always go according to plan and we split on the way over and never managed to find the same access point. It was still fun. Daniel taught me a little Tai Chi on the "beach". (CMass is hiding behind me)

Day 28
LT and Orita came to visit!!!! I treated them to the finer things in life: Artichoke Pizza on Franklin Street and Maple View ice cream in Hillsborough. This picture is out on the farm after we ate our ice cream.

Day 29
Look who it is...Trayonna! The three of us had Sunday brunch at Elmo's Diner and talked for a couple of hours about purpose, goals, and [life] vision. I love conversations with my sisters :)

Day 30
LABOR DAY cookout at JIPster Hollow. Jim made fajitas. Yes I am wearing the same shirt...no comment.

Days 11-20

Day 11
CUPCAKE FESTIVAL!!!!! I drove past this sign on the side of the road (almost served my car into the grass to write the number down) and invited all the JIPsters to it. $5 for all you can eat cupcake tasting. This was our first great decision as a house.

Day 12
We went out to Franklin Street and ran into Gumby from Gumby's Pizza.

Day 13
 exhausted!

Day 14
Redwoods Group (for profit insurance company; really cool place) was the last of my four last interviews

Day 15
This is my magical gift card. I thought it had $50 on it but I bought about $100 worth of stuff. Today was the day it ran out. We had some good times together.

Day 16
Carol came to our house in the afternoon to lead us in a session about journaling. I learned how to do a brain map. This has come in handy many times since that day.

Day 17
Daddy left for Ghana today for the funeral. I rushed to Borders to get him a couple of books to read while traveling. "The Namesake" and "London Bridges"

Day 18
Sugarland on Franklin Street has wonderful gelato and baked goods

Day 19
Look at me...in the office. Welcome to Habitat for Humanity of Orange County!

Day 20
A lot of parents were in town this evening so we had them over for dessert. We were all really happy. I let Mummy take my place in the photo.

Days 2-10

Day 2

This was the first day with the Johnson Intern Program. We drove to a retreat center 20 minutes away from the house in Mebane. Check out my cool water bottle.

Day 3
Getting ready for bed at the retreat center

Day 4
something made me sad so I at chocolate to feel better...it kind of worked :)

Day 5
Family photo! Don't we look goooood. Unfortunately we were all together because my grandmother had passed away the morning before.

Day 6
up late (as usual) doing something on the computer

Day 7
me and Dad before I went back to Carrboro. He's better behind the camera than in front of it hehe.

Day 8
Today the JIPsters listened to all the different partner organizations (i.e. job placements) and listened to them describe their programs. Habitat for Humanity gave us all plastic construction hats. They were my favorite!

Day 9
It was kind of a long day inside after During Servant Leadership class so we went on a walk through the arboretum behind Chapel of the Cross. There was an awesome covered pathway so of course I had to take a picture.

Day 10
Each of the JIPsters had to interview with 4 different partner organizations. I had to start out strong, so I went to Habitat first.

Day 1- August 9, 2010

My last weekend in Winston-Salem was spent sleeping on couches and blow up mattresses. This photo was taken the night before I moved to Carrboro, NC. All my belongings are packed behind me in the photo. One red suitcase, Jackson- my guitar with amp, and an overnight duffel bag prepped for two weekends in Mebane on retreat at Stone Circles.
